EVOTEL’S WINGS OF INSPIRATION EDUCATES FLORIDA SHELTER!

Nestled in the heart of Florida, Roodepoort, a unique women’s shelter offers hope and care for vulnerable children while also serving the wider community with its affordable daycare services.

This safety home, Wings of Inspiration Care Centre, currently looks after 70 children, providing them with a safe and nurturing environment to grow and thrive.

Beyond being a shelter, it also runs a well-managed daycare centre during the day where local families can bring their little ones for quality care at a reasonable fee, R600 monthly, or even less “depending on what parents can afford”.

A SHELTER AND DAYCARE HOME TO THE VULNERABLE!

The shelter is not just a place for children, it is a home for 42 grown-ups who live at the centre, many of whom dedicate their lives by working at the daycare centre.

This integration fosters a close-knit, supportive community where children and adults live and work together harmoniously.

In contributing towards its growth and live by its motto: we live by faith, not by sight, Evotel, South Africa’s open-access Fibre Network Operator (FNO), not only connected the centre with free high-speed internet connection, but has been the pillar of the running of the institution.

EVOTEL’S EYE LOOKS AT WINGS OF INSPIRATION!

On Wednesday, 5 November 2025, the eyes of centre manager and principal of the daycare, Haidi Harms, were filled with fears but just couldn’t let them down her cheek after Evotel donated a bakkie full of learning matters, from books to stationery necessary for teachers and learners.

The relationship between Evotel and Wings of Inspiration dates back many years ago and indications are that it continue to grow, especially now the centre is producing matriculants who are making it shine above the rest.

The atmosphere on the day was one where compassion met practicality, ensuring children received both emotional and educational support.

MEANING NO HARM BUT BUILDING SHELTR!

The Harms, who has become a pillar of strength within the shelter, shared a compelling personal story who giving Evotel a tour of the facility and introducing all role players in the house.

She has lived in the home for four years and attributes much of her current stability to the supportive environment it provides.

Her journey has been challenging, according to her.

After a difficult marital affair ended, she unfortunately fell into drug addiction, especially with crystal meth, a period she deeply regrets and openly speaks about today.

Her experience gives her a powerful voice in educating and warning others about the severe dangers of substance abuse.

She believes in transparency and uses her story as a living lesson for the children and the community.

Harms says her ongoing commitment is to transform pain into purpose by helping others avoid the pitfalls she once faced.

DEDICATION IS MORE THAN JUST PROFESSIONALISM – IT’S PERSONAL

Through her leadership, the daycare centre is not only a place of learning but also a place where children can feel safe, valued, and understood.

Natasja Steenkamp, a consultant at the centre, admitted that by offering affordable daycare services, the shelter caters to families in the surrounding areas who might otherwise struggle to find quality care.

“This helps bridge gaps in early childhood education and provides economic support to the shelter’s operation,” she said.

Harms added: “Living together, the 42 residents share responsibilities, creating a family-like atmosphere. Many work daily at the daycare, ensuring the children are looked after with love and professionalism. We have a rooster that everybody follows. Everyone wakes up at 5am to prepare their bed and daily chores.

“This creates a sustainable ecosystem where care, work, and community support are interwoven, making the shelter more than just a temporary refuge – it is a place where lives are rebuilt.”

Admittedly, Wings of Inspiration stands as a beacon of hope in the community.
